I will make one statement right out of the gate: With Primeval Force is the album I was always hoping to hear from Vampire! I have become acquainted with Vampire ever since their demo hailed by Fenriz, soon thereafter debut album and Cimmerian Shade EP followed and while being very cool slabs of metal I have always felt that Vampire can do more. The time for their second full length is here and I am happy to inform that With Primeval Force is the moment where Vampire stepped up a notch and really became force to be reckoned with. You know how they say, second album can make or break one band and Vampire has really done what should be performed here – they took all the strengths of their troop, took it further and condensate all that is good about them. I must say that my vision of cool metal is pretty similar to what Vampire is doing here – metal that is well informed of its glorious filthy past but does not represent pure copying, metal that relies mostly on atmosphere instead of technical wankery and which is filled to the brim with dark feelings of horrors unnamed. One could name a lot of old bands such as Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Destruction, Nifelheim or Celtic Frost when describing Vampire but as I have already noted, one cannot accuse them of being the mere copy of aforementioned legends. They have rather taken the sense for writing evil riffs, constructing haunting songs and album which has its flow and does not have unnecessary filler songs that are just there to enhance the length of the album… and don’t forget the magnificent cover art which adds the icing on the cake! With Primeval Force is indeed one old school album but in the same time it represents something new on the scene, it brings us one band which knows how to do it without being pathetic retro copy. All in all, I am very happy with the final outcome of With Primeval Force and I think that all the people into similar stuff should check this one out immediately.
