As a matter of fact you have a new record Summoning the Malicious so tell us something about the newer record? Could you present it from your point of view?
Our new album shows a lot of diversity, melody and goes far beyond the thrash metal genre. It’s a mix of old-school music from a lot of different genres. It even has some progressive, jazzy influences sometimes. This album is something that most old-school metal heads would really appreciate. It consists of 9 thrashing songs, that will bang your head for 37 minutes. Compared to our debut album, this new album has got more songs that are mid-tempo and more melodic, but still keeps the old-school thrash spirit alive.
“Summoning the Malicious” is the 2nd part of our album trilogy, which lyrically is about questions regarding “freedom”. What is freedom? Are you actually free? Would you like to be? Every song is based around a particular topic relating back to these questions.
Please, also could you present the band Distillator to our readers since this is the very first time that we have a chance to have an interview with you?
Distillator is a 3-piece old-school thrash metal band from Enschede, The Netherlands.
If you love to listen to bands like Slayer, Destruction, Kreator and Megadeth, you definitely should check out our music. It’s available on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes and many other platforms. Also, it’s available on CD, LP and cassette tape.

How would you like to describe your style of playing? Tell us something about your influences as well.
Old-school music, especially thrash metal, has always been our passion. We grew up with bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, but also newer bands like Children of Bodom, Slipknot and Dimmu Borgir. Nowadays, we listen to a lot of different genres like prog (Opeth, Symphony X), Nordic (Wardruna) and Doom (Electric Wizzard) too. All of these bands somehow influence us in one way or another. We basically play the music that comes to mind.
Could you tell us something about previous full-length of Distillator?
Our previous album, is our debut album which is called “Revolutionary Cells”. This is your typical old-school thrash metal mayhem, combined with a fat layer of Distillator sauce. It consists of 9 songs that has a total length of 35 minutes. This is the first part of our album trilogy, which lyrically is about events from the past regarding freedom and especially restriction of freedom.
Since this is your second full-length record could you compare your new record with your previous records?
Our new album “Summoning the Malicious”, is like a bigger brother to the debut album. It has a more “mature” songwriting style and has a better balance in songs throughout the album. Also, the new album contains a lot of influences from other genres which has result in some cool mixtures of styles.
When it comes to Distillator do you have any live shows in mind soon? Are you active actually when it comes to live performances?
We do a lot of live shows. Next month, we’ll play support for Anthrax. It will be our second time that we will support them and we are looking forward to the show! Other bigger shows are In Flammen Open Air Festival in Germany, Skullfest and Support for Toxik in Belgium.
What is the next step for Distillator since you have just released your second album?
We are busy to arrange some bigger tour in the near future. Furthermore, we want to play as many shows as possible to promote this new record. In the meantime, we’ll be writing on the 3rd part of our album trilogy.
Thanks for the cool interview!
