VESEN Damnation Path

Vesen comes from Norway and they are playing a combination between black and thrash metal. In fact, the band has releaseed so far 5 full-lengths starting from 2005. Just, at the very end of 2016 they have published their latest effort.
Please, also could you present Vesen as the band to our readers since this is the very first time that we have a chance to have an interview with you.

Hello, Dag Olav from Vesen here. Thank you very much for your interest. We are from Norway, been playing black/thrash going on 18 years now. We try to do things a little different from other bands in the genre. We always say that we have one foot in black/thrash and move the other foot around, as we like to take chances and experiment a bit.

As a matter of fact you have a brand new record Rorschach so tell us something about a newer record? Could you present it from your point of view?

This is a concept album, which I guess is rare in our genre. The title refers to the Rorschach test, which is a psychological test for the mentally ill, and it gives a hint to what the story is about. Musically, we are a bit «all over the place» with this one, with some songs pointing to the future with more experimentation, while others are firmly back to our roots with a more classic thrash metal feel.

In fact Rorschach is your 5th full-length so tell us something more about your previous album? Could you compare your new record with your previous release?

We always enjoyed experimentation going hand in hand with more classic black/thrash, and I think on our previous album «This Time It´s Personal» we found a direction that for us seems lush and original. For sure, we will explore that direction further in the future, while the album we released now, «Rorschach», is kind of a reaction to that, sort of a step back to orientate ourselves a bit. So «Rorschach» is a bit more old-school Vesen, but also with strong links to the «Personal» album.

When it comes to Vesen do you have any live shows in mind soon? Are you active actually when it comes to live performances?

We have some gigs coming up in Norway, but we want to get out of Scandinavia as well, so anyone interested in booking us, please be in touch.

If you like to recommend Vesen to some people what references you would like to drown to some other bands and styles? Aura Noir, Carpathian Forest… But with an appetite for adventure, hehe.

As a matter of fact Vesen members were involved in many other bands so could you tell us something about those bands? Ronny and Thomas are also in Devil and Tyburn. Stein is in Evig Natt, and I play prog rock in Ring van Möbius.

Vesen is very active in this moment. In just 10 years you have released five records and you are already on good label. So, what’s the next step for the band? For me, the songwriting process is the most interesting, so I´m looking forward to get into that for the next album. Should also be interesting to play the «Rorschach» songs live in a couple of months.

Thank you very much for the interview, we really appreciate it.
